I’m just going to warn you right now, this is barely a training recap. BUT, I promised myself I would stick to this so here we go. Oh, and happy Labor day! Hope you’re reading this from your bed (or the beach.. or somewhere else lovely).
Week of August 26th
Monday — 3.6 mile run
After work, one of my roommates asked if I wanted to go on a run with her. I hadn’t been planning on running that day since I had done my long run (5 miles) the morning before, but I quickly realized it would be tough to fit in a run later with my schedule so I agreed. I don’t often run with other people (mostly for timing purposes) but I really enjoyed it! The miles flew by and my body held up great! I don’t know what pace we were running since she kept track for us : )
Tuesday — 1/2 mile swim
Another perfect swim at the pond with Kelly + company. If I could swim there every day for the rest of my life I would be happy. Kel wrote a great post about swimming for fitness, which you should check out : )
Wednesday — Rest
Wednesdays have been continuously sucky this summer. I opted for wine + rest over running.
Thursday — Rest
I forced myself to rest again today as my right calf muscle was feeling particularly tight and I was having some pain in the bottom of my foot. Two super random/out of the blue aches but I didn’t really want to mess with them. I’m glad I gave myself the extra rest though because by Friday I was feeling better.
Friday — ~1 mile run
My run unexpectedly got cut short but I was still happy to get out there, even if it was only for 10 minutes. Then later on that day I gave myself a nice, long foam rolling session.
Saturday — Rest
Sunday — 75-minute yoga class, 6 mile long run (~9:36 min./mi)
You can tell the only night I got sleep this week haha. I laugh, but it’s actually not funny.. the lack of sleep is really starting to take a toll on me mentally and physically.
Anyways, yoga was great. I spend Saturday night at my parents house so I was able to go to my favorite yoga studio with my favorite teacher that morning. She focused on hip openers and I was extremely thankful for that. Later in the day when the thunderstorms cleared, I got out for a six mile run. It was HOT and sweaty but surprisingly a really good run. (Oh, and I followed up with an ice bath!)
This week was kind of chaotic because I had Jimmy staying with me (during his Law School orientation) and I’m still adjusting to the routine of living in my new apartment. I haven’t found an easily accessible yoga studio yet, which is really messing with me. I know I’m picky but I’d like a good-quality, power yoga studio 5 minutes away that offers 60 minute classes at both 6AM and 7:30PM. Is that too much to ask? haha. While I wasn’t as good as last week, I’m continuing to “do the little things well“. I’m proud of myself for listening to my body and pulling back a bit in the middle of the week. No sense in getting injured 2-weeks into training. Ironically enough, I think the aches and pains actually stemmed from walking around the office in flats as opposed to something related to running. I might have to start rockin’ sneakers to work ; )
Goal for next week: get back to yoga.
Are you training for anything currently? If so, how did last week’s workouts go?
