These Days {Weekly Workouts}

February 5, 2013

This blog has been very photography and yoga heavy lately (as has my life..) so I thought I’d switch things up a little bit and give you all a peak into what my workouts have been looking like lately while my focus has been elsewhere. I haven’t talked much about Physical Therapy and running because if I talk about how I tried running one day and then my hip started to hurt again the next, over and over.. you’d probably be as frustrated as I am : )

For those of you who have been reading this blog for a while, you probably know that fitness is usually a priority of mine. However, these days it’s taken a bit of a back seat. I’m actually totally okay with it. Sometimes you have to sacrifice things temporarily to achieve your bigger dreams. I know my fitness motivation will come back eventually, so for now I’m being patient and cutting myself some slack!

Fit Tip of the Week: Run slower. Boston Magazine says, “After 20 miles per week, the cardiovascular benefits of running start to decline.”  Slower runners unite!

Week of January 28th

Monday  Lower body workout. Physical Therapy in the morning – included lunges, squats, leg raises, a nice back massage..

Tuesday  30 minutes elliptical, easy pace. Class was delayed an hour and a half for scheduling purposes, so I took advantage by hitting the elliptical for 30 minutes. Since we’ve had interesting luck with running, my Physical Therapist decided we should start slower with elliptical and biking. The hip felt great!

Wednesday — Rest.

Thursday — 30 minutes elliptical, easy pace. I was driving back from school and the gym was just calling my name. I haven’t been to the gym in SO long and it felt SO good. (As did my hip, win!)

Friday — PM Yoga. Yoga teacher training involved a nice, restorative flow. Perfect way to end the week : )

Saturday — Yoga Teacher Training. ’nuff said.

Sunday — Yoga Teacher Training. Death by chaturanga.

So.. clearly I’m in a little bit of a workout slump.. while I may have done something active most days last week, my workouts lack purpose and energy. I’ve been making a list of workouts I want to try for when my motivation does come back. Here are a few:

I am sort of in a workout slump as well. I just did treadmill runs last week which is pretty boring. It will warm to the 30s this week so I am looking forward to heading outdoors to run!

Ugh I’m sorry your hip is STILL bothering you :( That sucks! I have been working out quite a bit lately – lots with friends! I can’t even remember the last time I went for a run by myself. Hopefully all this yoga will help with your hip a bit. I think yoga has been my saving grace when it comes to avoiding running injuries!

I know, right?! You would think with all the yoga I’ve been doing over the past 9 months this injury would be way behind me!

Aw, thank you! Injuries suck and I’d be lying if I said I wan’t incredibly frustrated and upset that I still can’t workout at the level I’d like. But at least I can do some things.. so I’m trying to focus on that.

You still manage to get in some quality workouts, even with your busy schedule! Convicting for me. Haha.

My favorite workouts are definitely the boot camp workouts I do for Best Body Bootcamp. They work me hard and I always feel so awesome and strong when I finish!

I think with all the yoga you are doing, that is enough :) You are getting some cardio in with elliptical so that’s good :)
