Ever since graduation, I’ve been waiting for that moment – that moment where I think, “this is what I want to do.” It doesn’t have to be forever kind of love, I understand now that I’m not someone who is going to have one career for my entire life. But I’ve been searching for something that I want to do for at least the foreseeable future. I sort of got that feeling with wedding photography, I certainly didn’t get that feeling working my 9-to-5 programming job.
And then I did my 30 day yoga challenge and started yoga teacher training. My mind was buzzing with yoga constantly, so naturally, my photography and yoga were destined to merge at some point. I don’t know why I didn’t see this coming, but I didn’t.
For the past two weeks, we’ve been learning about fashion photography and working with models in the studio. Now.. anyone who knows me, knows I’m not very fashionable. I don’t read magazines or keep up with what the celebrities are wearing, I could care less about the Kardashians and am lucky if I put more than 5 minutes into my appearance in the morning. So needless to say, I wasn’t too excited about this module going into it.
But then I realized there was a way to turn the assignment into something I’m interested in.. fitness photography! One of the models said she had brought yoga clothes with her and ta da! She became my new best friend. I had so much fun in fact, that I have completely changed my mind about hating the studio and am now dreaming up a future where I have my own.

While meditating at YTT during Week 2, I came to the realization that I really want my photography business to be a balance between weddings and fitness/yoga portraiture. Weddings are awesome and something I’m of course still pursuing but this fitness stuff gets me really excited. I’ve also been looking for something that’s less weekend-focused .. for obvious reasons : ) My experience in the studio these past two weeks has further proved to me that this is something I really want to pursue.
Thank you Victoria for being an awesome model and inspiring me! : )

DANG. When can I hire you to get pictures like this of my dance team? These are absolutely stunning! I know that searching for “that feeling” quite well, and I’m so excited that you seem to be thinking you’re on the right track.
Anytime! Seriously, I love this stuff : ) I’m working on some dance photos right now so be on the look out for those!
awesome photos! I’m an actor and personal trainer so when I recently got new acting headshots taken and asked the photographer to do some fitness-y shots as well. It’s an great way for you to merge two passions
Wow awesome photos! She did great! Definitely a flexible girl. Makes me wanna do yoga and stretch.
Awesome idea! I’m sure lots of people would be interested in this. One of my coworkers is a dancer and she had some amazing professional photos taken of her dancing in really random/cool spots like beside a lake and in the middle of a city street and they turned out beautiful!
These pictures came out AWESOME. Hard to believe this is what came of your Friday “yeah this girl had clothes so great” day
I’ve now been looking at the photos on websites etc and deciding you can do better.
This post made me happy! It’s always awesome to see people find their “bliss” and I’m glad that you have found yours. If you ever want to collaborate or take some fun yoga shots this spring, let me know. E-mail me: sherocksfitness@gmail.com.
I am SO excited for you! If this is your first fitness shoot, I can’t even imagine how tremendous your photos will be with practice. These are Shape/Fitness/Self-quality photographs – you’re amazing!
P.S. If you weren’t so far away, I’d totally hire you to take new profile pics of me for my blog. Darn it!
