Virtual Coffee Date

May 14, 2013

A bunch of my favorite bloggers have been doing this series (I think it originated with Jenna) and I needed a creative way to share some life updates, so here it goes!

If we were having coffee this morning, I’d tell you that I signed a lease on an apartment in Brookline last night. I’ll be moving in mid-August with two girls from college; the apartment is beautiful and in a great location. As nice as it has been to be home and save money, I’m really excited to be out on my own again and living with friends / close by other friends!

If we were having coffee this morning, I’d tell you that I accepted a full-time job last week that starts next week. It’s in finance (surprise!) and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little excited to get back into Excel and number crunching (nerd alert). The job is temporary but I’m hoping it opens up opportunities for a part-time job in the future. My photography business is growing strong but I need some extra cash to really invest in it (and pay for my new apartment). I’m also working for another wedding photographer a couple of hours a week doing album designs, which has been really fun! It’s going to be a loaded summer..

If we were having coffee this morning, I’d tell you that I graduate from photography school in two and a half weeks! Soooo.. that flew by! I’m a little stressed out trying to wrap up photo school while get ready for my new job next week, but I’m hoping to finish everything I have to do by tomorrow. *Fingers crossed*

Last week, me and my photo friends took head shots of each other for our websites. It was so fun and we got so many great ones! Love these girls..

If we were having coffee this morning, I’d tell you my brother graduates from college this weekend! I can’t even believe it. I’m going to be in NYC Thursday through Sunday for two photo shoots and his graduation. Never a dull moment, I swear.

If we were having coffee this morning, I’d tell you that I’m going to Las Vegas for Memorial Day weekend with some friends from college. You should be expecting some great photos because clearly that’s what I’m most excited about.

If we were having coffee this morning, I’d tell you that I went to the Cape this past weekend and ate out Friday and Saturday night with the fam. This was my first real test as gluten free.. I tried to be as clear as possible about gluten, but I haven’t felt well since Friday. It’s possible it was just a coincidence, but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous for Vegas.. Any gluten free travel suggestions would be much appreciated!

If we were on a coffee date this morning what would you tell me?

Gluten Free {Week One}

May 10, 2013

Hi all, thanks for your sweet comments on my last post! I didn’t want to leave the week off on a sour note so I thought I’d pop in for a little recap of how my first week (and a day) gluten free has been. This is a much more upbeat/happy post, I promise!

First off, let me start by saying that I’m really glad I limited diary and added green juice in April because now in May as I go gluten free, literally nothing has changed in my diet except the removal of gluten. So I can say with complete confidence these changes are because I’m gluten free – as opposed to a lactose intolerance or the benefits of green juice – (or it’s just coincidentally an awesome week, I guess we’ll determine that next week!).

BEFORE Struggling to wake up at 7:30am with multiple alarms, skipped workout sessions and late(r than I’d like to be) to obligations. The urge to crawl back into bed by 11am.

AFTER Waking up between 6 and 6:30am with no alarm and ready to start the day. Energy lasts through the day. I kid you not! Let’s keep this up!

BEFORE Irregular, sporadic, or unpleasant bowel movements. (Sorry.. necessary..)

AFTER Regular, consistent, delightful (ha) bowel movements.

BEFORE Sharp stomach pains, bloating, etc. after some meals. (Random, not daily.. but somewhat frequently)

AFTER No stomach pain. Not one. In a week!

BEFORE No headaches / lightheaded / spaciness (at least lately, have had these from time to time over the past couple years)

AFTER Constant headache, poor short term memory, spaciness. (Hey, I had to put one bad thing in here! Researched this and I could be suffering from gluten withdrawals – fun! The headache is already starting to improve..)

BEFORE Uncontrollable cravings, felt like I was never quite satisfied when it came to food.

AFTER No cravings of any kind (yet), feeling satisfied with less food. No gluten slip-ups in seven days = Success! Miracle!

So, is the jury still out about if going gluten free was the right move for me? Nope! Now, I just need some GF lunch ideas.. please help!!

My Road to Gluten Free

May 8, 2013

Yesterday, my doctor called to inform me that my endoscopy came back negative for Celiac Disease and I burst into tears. What? I guess I’ll start at the beginning… When I was a junior in high school, my doctor inadvertently discovered I was B12 anemic and had a high liver function. At the time, and then again [...]

What Do You Do?

May 6, 2013

As I mentioned Friday, I’ll be participating in Jenni’s “Blog Every Day in May” Challenge here and there this month. Mostly just because I think she asks great questions, less about the blogging every day thing haha : ) Today’s question is: ”If you couldn’t answer with your job, how would you answer the question, ‘what do [...]

May Intentions

May 1, 2013

Guys.. I KICKED April’s BUTT. It was a roller coaster month of emotions: happy, nervous, excited, exhausted, content, proud.. and of course, sad. But with every tragedy, I feel myself rebuild and grow even stronger, more connected. And with every good day, I feel my anxiety over the future dissipate. April was jam packed with photo [...]

Coming to an End {Photo School Lessons}

April 25, 2013

I can’t believe I’m saying this but yesterday was my last day of photography school. I still have a lot to do, including Practicum (working with a non-profit on an actual photo project) and printing/matting for the Graduation Gallery Show, but I’m done with classes. Where did the time go? Wasn’t I just in New [...]

I Taught My First Yoga Class

April 24, 2013

… And it was terrifying. I don’t really have a ton to say about it, but I did want to share my experience with everyone who followed my eight-week teacher training journey! It wasn’t life changing. I didn’t feel like I suddenly found my calling or purpose. I didn’t leave feeling the overwhelming desire to do [...]
